1. Know Your Business Inside and Out
Thoroughly understanding the industry and having a firm knowledge of our product/service is critical to being able to attract interested clients. When you know our product backward and forward, that fact comes through. The people who would be interested in your offerings can see how knowledgeable you are and will seek your assistance.
Ask yourself these questions
Who are they?
What do they do?
What products they are selling?
3. Try Direct Response Marketing
Your best bet for reaching out and touching customers is to use tactics to encourage them to complete a specific action, such as opt into your email list or request more information.
“Focus on building human relationships. The stronger your relationships are, the more likely your customers will be to tell their friends about you. And, the more likely they'll be to come back.”
These five steps will make your clients impressed with your startup’s professional level of customer support
Smile
Just as in-person guests can see your smile, callers can hear it over the phone. Smiling helps your tone sound friendly and helpful, and as an added perk, it’s a great mood-booster for you, to boot!
Be prompt
After five rings, callers tend to think no one’s there or worse, that you’re too busy to help them. If you miss their call entirely, they just may call one of your competitors instead of leaving a voicemail, so if you’d like to make sure every call is answered live, you may want to consider using a virtual receptionist service. Virtual receptionists will cheerfully and promptly answer your calls, and your potential customers will feel cared for every time they call.
Set reasonable expectations (and exceed them)
Feel free to let them know what time callers can expect a return call. A client with a simple problem can quickly turn frustrated when they’re left waiting by the phone, unsure whether you’re going to get back to them today, this week, or later. Avoid this uncertainty by keeping your virtual receptionist in the loop so he or she can give callers great expectations: “Zee, our Support Technician, would be happy to assist you. He’s in a meeting until 3:00 but returning calls afterward. May I take a message?”
Create meaningful connections
One of the best ways to set your business apart is to cultivate personal relationships with your clients. Others can create similar products and services, but they can’t imitate your customer service. Even if it’s simply said in passing, always acknowledge when callers share personal info.
For example, if your caller says, “It was great speaking with you! I’ll be out of the office next week on vacation, but I’d love to touch base the week after,” don’t just agree to follow up; ask them where they’re going on vacation. They’re probably excited about it, and you get to share in their enthusiasm!
Solve problems
Even if your service does not offer what they are looking for, find out what they are ultimately trying to achieve. See if there is any way that your startup’s services might be able to help. Even if your company is not in a position to help the caller with their particular issue, you might be able to offer advice, refer them to a partner, Whom you have used in the past. Helping them solve their problems, even when it’s not going to result in any additional revenue for you, is a great way to establish relationships with potential future customers.
Selling is the art of matching product benefits with customer needs or desires. Sell your business offerings by communicating the value of your product or service to your potential customers. Lead the customer through the buying decision and facilitate a satisfying transaction.
1. Know your product. Imagine every question a prospect might ask and arm yourself with answers, linking each product to a customer benefit.
2. Explain your offering in a sentence. Condense everything you know into a brief explanation that can grab interest and cause the prospect to think, “Hmm, this will benefit me.”
3. Know your prospect. Visit Web sites, read company brochures, talk to mutual associates, and do any research necessary to arrive armed with prospect knowledge.
4. Know what message your prospect is ready to receive. Especially if yours is a new or unusual offering, you may need to help the prospect see the need before asking for the order.
5. Set your sales presentation goal. Often, your aim is an incremental step to prompt the prospect to request a proposal, to schedule a meeting with a higher-level decision makers, to arrange a demonstration, or to take some other step to move the process toward its final step.
Selling is a transfer of enthusiasm during which you convince a prospective customer that you have the solution to their problem or want.
Selling services to small businesses is achieved by getting these three things right:
Offering
Offering refers to what you’re selling. For instance, if you are a web developer and your target market is small businesses with 1–5 employees, are you selling packages appropriate to this market? A small business of this size is not going to be interested in all the bells and whistles.
